Adobe Photoshop is an image editing and design program with creative tools for design and photography.

This tool is useful for:

Creating and manipulating images
Editing photos
Website design
Creating layouts for design, such as posters.

Pros/Cons

Pros:

Allows for image editing and compositing
Can create multiple layouts in different sizes, lay them out within a single document and see them all at once
Assets in CC Libraries can be linked so that changes made have the option of being updated across any Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign projects where it is used
Can export a single layer, artboard or entire document with one click
Using the new Adobe Stock marketplace, you can find, licence and manage royalty-free images and vectors from within Photoshop CC

Cons:

Not designed for beginners
Need some amount of skill or training to use it
Takes time and patience to learn how to use it - there are a lot of different tools that do very different things

Getting started

Access via the UNSW Medicine Media Room:

The Medicine Media Room (Located in room 237 in the AGSM Building) has a licence available for use. You must complete the orientation to access the room, but once you have access you can book the room to use the different software available for free.

Access via a free trial:

Adobe Photoshop is available for a 30 day free trial or monthly subscription HERE or for the entire collection of adobe applications (Adobe Creative Cloud) click HERE (Adobe offers a discount price for students, teachers, staff and educational institutions). For more information about the system requirements, please click HERE.

NOTE: If you're using a UNSW SOE (Standard Operating Environment) computer, and you do not have admin permission then you will need to make a request from UNSW IT to install the software for you.
