A picture speaks a thousand words - a thoughtfully produced video clip can speak ten thousand words and many students prefer watching a short video rather than reading through pages and pages of text. Adobe Premiere Pro was used to edit video clips for adaptive learning modules. The edited videos were mostly 'talking head' or 'run and gun' style interviews shot with a digital camera either in the studio or on location. The majority of videos incorporated additional graphical elements and overlays, such as UNSW Medicine title screen, the name and title of the featured person, graphs and figures to illustrate the issues being discussed.

Adobe Premiere Pro was chosen over other tools as Adobe Creative Cloud subscription is cheap for UNSW academics. Thus, it is more economical over less powerful tools such as Camtasia or iMovie. These rival tools have significant limitations and less features compared to Premiere Pro. Much of the footage was shot with a green screen in the background, and either due to the nature of the green screen used, the available lighting or the skills of the cameraman (!), the unevenness in the texture and luminance of the background presented significant problems when editing. Premiere Pro has very powerful tools to deal with this and therefore enabled effective use of the green screen.

Premiere Pro will be the preferred choice for future video editing, however the use of the green screen may be reconsidered. Interviews shot on location work really well, so the use of a green screen will be reserved for specific situations.
