To aid students who were unable to complete an experiment, the Moodle Lesson Tool was used to create a post-lab exercise for students to have access to a complete data set from the experiment to confirm their understanding of the data analysis and the key concepts of the lab. This provided greater clarity to the students as to the interpretation of the data and the conclusions that are reached. Due to time constraints, the Moodle Lesson Tool was chosen as it is easy to produce in Moodle without having to leave the Moodle environment, and is fairly intuitive to construct. It also provided the opportunity to explore the potential of the tool. It is a good way to combine the presentation of information with some testing of comprehension. A reasonable range of different question types are available.
However, there are limitations to the appearance of the questions on the screen and how the answers are presented and the analytics on the responses is rather basic – only the percentage of responses to each choice can be extracted. Future use of this tool would depend on the application.
